Fatoumata Diabaté (b. 1980, Bamako) lives and works between Bamako and Montpellier. A portraitist whose practice bridges humanist and social photography, she is known for Studio Photo de la Rue, a traveling street studio that revives Mali’s mid-century studio tradition. Trained at Promo-Femmes and the Centre de Formation en Photographie de Bamako (CFP) (2002–04), she later served as CFP’s analog lab technician (2007–09). Honors include the Afrique en Créations prize (2005), Fondation Blachère prize (2011), Quai Branly photographic residency laureate (2021), and finalist for the James Barnor Prize (2022). Exhibitions span Bamako Encounters, Dakar Biennale, Red Hook Labs, and La Gacilly.
