Synopsis
An extraordinary trial unfolds in a residential courtyard in Bamako, citizens have taken proceedings against global financial institutions over the persistent impoverishment of their nation. As witnesses deliver bracing testimonies on the neo-colonial apparatus, life in the compound continues: a marriage teeters on collapse, a security guard’s gun disappears, a young man silently fights illness, and the women keep everything moving—spinning cotton, tending children, and speaking their minds. Set in the celebrated director’s childhood compound, Bamako is a vivid human-centered courtroom drama.
