Gallery 1957 is a contemporary art gallery with spaces in Accra, Ghana, and London, UK, dedicated to fostering international dialogue through art. Founded by Marwan Zakhem on Ghana’s Independence Day in 2016, it champions artists exploring identity, belonging, cultural exchange and social history beyond Western narratives. Expanding from three Accra galleries to London in 2020, it connects Global South artists and diasporic communities with international audiences. Its programme includes exhibitions, performances, residencies, art fairs, publications and Cultural Week. In 2021, it launched the Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize, supporting emerging and established female Ghanaian artists and advancing contemporary African art.
