City of Dreams
How do we weave together the strands of our collective futures?
When we think about the future of our cities, the complex yet balanced ecosystems of the natural world offer an alternative model for interconnected urban systems.
So what would it look like if we re-imagined our relationships or communities or structural systems as roots? What happens if we create sites of exchange, reciprocity and connection in order to grow deeper and spread further?
The Mangrove Tree creates an anchor as a sculptural, sustainable installation symbolising interconnectedness and resilience. In our current climate crisis, trees hold up a vital mirror to humanity. Their lives can stretch across centuries, absorbing the echoes of our social and political decisions through the rings of growth within their core. They remind us that survival depends on the strength of the networks we cultivate and the lessons we learn from the past.
The installation is fabricated by MitiMeth, a social enterprise creating wealth from waste and tackling environmental and social challenges. A network of artisans across 5 states weave the invasive and destructive water hyacinth into sustainable textiles and home decor. Like the City of Dreams, they transform unlikely alternatives into generative possibilities, reminding us that imagination and collaboration can remake the world we live in.
Join the conversation, and step into an evolving dialogue about who we are and the world we want to shape together.
